Our Story
MPET is a 50/50 joint venture between PSA International and Terminal Investment Limited (TIL)
PSA International
PSA is one of the world's largest port groups, operating 70 deepsea, rail and barge terminals across 180 locations in 45 countries, with flagship operations in Singapore and Antwerp.
In 2024, PSA handled 100.2 million TEU globally, equivalent to nearly 275,000 containers per day. PSA Singapore accounted for almost half of this volume, while the PSA terminals in Antwerp, including MPET, jointly accounted for 10.6 million TEU in 2024.
Terminal Investment Limited (TIL)
Terminal Investment Limited (TiL) was founded in 2000 by the Aponte family to secure container terminal capacity at the main ports used by shipping company MSC.
Since then, TIL has been investing, developing and managing container terminals in several continents and operates in the world's largest and busiest ports, including Singapore, Ningbo, Busan, Los Angeles, Long Beach, Rotterdam, New York, Valencia and, of course, Antwerp.
Our History
2004-2015: MSC Home Terminal
Our terminal’s journey began in 2004 on the right bank of the River Scheldt, behind the locks at what was then called Delwaide Dock — now known as Liberation Dock.
At this site, MSC Home Terminal evolved into Antwerp’s largest container terminal and became the key hub for MSC in Northern Europe.
By 2014, rapid growth had pushed the terminal to its maximum annual capacity of 5.5 million TEU, prompting a full relocation to a larger, more future-proof site: the Deurganck Dock on the Left Bank.
2014-2016: 'The Big Move'
Between 2014 and 2016, operations were gradually relocated from the right bank site to the Deurganck Dock on the left bank. Throughout the entire transition period, both terminals remained fully operational. The terminal also changed its name to MSC PSA European Terminal, or simply "MPET."
The relocation of all cranes, equipment, handling equipment, containers, offices, people and liner services was entirely managed in-house by our own team. A project still recognized today as the largest relocation in maritime history.
It’s a project we are genuinely proud of!
TODAY: the single largest container terminal in europe
At the Deurganck Dock, MPET has grown into the largest container terminal in Europe, with an annual handling capacity of 9 million TEU.
Capable of accommodating the world’s largest vessels, MPET serves as MSC’s main hub in Europe, handling 43 services to and from destinations across the globe - accounting for over 50% of Antwerp’s total container volume.
